“I’ve never met someone who is so perfectly my favorite person.”

✨A Glimpse of What to Expect:

After the tragedy of losing her father and learning everything wasn’t as it seemed, January Andrews moves into the beach house of her father’s second life. She hopes to spend the next few months selling everything off and breaking through her writer’s block. As it turns out, finding out the Happily Ever After of your parents was not true writing romance books feels nearly impossible. As she expected, digging through her father’s other life wasn’t any easier than writing. One big curveball in this chaotic mess she was not anticipating was discovering that her college rival, Augustus Everett, lives next door. He was the one who always criticized her work and thought of her as a “fairy princess.” But avoiding your neighbor isn’t simple and one thing leads to another. They make a deal to write in each other’s styles, January’s being romance and Gus’s being literary fiction, in the hopes of breaking through their creative slumps. Whoever sells their book first will get unwavering support from the other. To show that the other’s genre was not simple to write, they decided to give each other lessons, hers on romcom-worthy events and his on real-world interviews with uncomfortable topics. There was only one rule made - to not fall in love with each other. It should be easy… right?

✨My Thoughts:

If I am being perfectly honest, Beach Read has become my favorite Emily Henry book!! There is something amazing about how Emily Henry writes her books. Her characters seem to truly come alive on the pages. She beautifully writes about the easy emotions while also diving deeper into the topics of grief, betrayal, and regret. For all of these reasons, I easily fell in love with January and Gus and their enemies-to-lovers relationship. Having the background of how they first met gave me insight into why these two felt like they never saw eye-to-eye and brought the Second Chance trope into play. I appreciated the small-town vibe and discovering the characters that brought the town of North Bear Shores, Michigan, to life. It was one of those books that once I fell, I fell hard and couldn’t stop reading. It made me laugh and cry in the best way possible! It gave me all the emotions a perfect rom-com delivers!

If you have not read Beach Read by Emily Henry, it is the perfect summer read and I highly recommend it!

Favorite Quotes:

“He fit so perfectly in the love story I'd imagined for myself that I mistook him for the love of my life.”

“That was what I'd always loved about reading, what had driven me to write in the first place. That feeling that a new world was being spun like a spiderweb around you and you couldn't move until the whole thing had revealed itself to you.”

“If you think the story has a sad ending, it's because it's not over yet.”

“Falling's the part that takes your breath away. It's the part when you can't believe the person standing in front of you both exists and happened to wander into your path. It's supposed to make you feel lucky to be alive, exactly when and where you are.”

“You know that feeling, when you're watching someone sleep and you feel overwhelmed with joy that they exist?”
