Yours Truly Book Review
“I agree to be harmless to you.”
✨A Glimpse of What to Expect:
Dr. Briana Ortiz has not been having the best year of her life. After finding out her husband of 10 years was cheating on her, she might have used some glitter for revenge and filed for divorce. But that was not the worst of it, because at the same time, her brother is running out of time to find a kidney donor as he is declining fast. To top it off, there is a new doctor, Jacob Maddox, working in the Emergency Room with her and the hospital decided they should delay the vote for the promotion Briana clearly deserves. Their reason - it would not be fair to make a vote until the staff got to make a connection with Dr. Maddox, the male doctor. Immediately, they have a poor encounter and he is registering an eighty-seven on Bri’s “pain in the ass” scale. But when Jacob writes her a letter, it changes her complete understanding of him. They started exchanging letter constantly and it became the thing they both looked forward to every day. They start leaving notes for each other everywhere - on the lockers, their charting computers, under their keyboards, and in their crying closet. When the impossible happens and Jacob finds out he is a perfect match kidney donor, he decides to give Bri the best gift he could - giving his kidney to her brother. While he is doing it because he’s always wanted to donate, it worked out in his favor. He needs a date to a wedding… his bother is marrying his ex-girlfriend.
✨My Thoughts:
I loved Yours Truly and everything it had to offer! Abby Jimenez did things in this book that I have never read before. The way she was able to capture anxiety was breathtaking. I feel like anxiety can be a tricky subject and sometimes it doesn’t translate on paper like it affects someone. However, Jimenez was able to discuss anxiety and advocate for mental health beautifully. I actually feel as though she was able to see into my brain and write how anxiety affects me on a daily basis through James. I almost feel like I should bring this book to my therapist, so she can understand how my brain processes. While she was advocating for mental health, she stressed the importance of processing and understanding yourself. I loved the way she was able to bring this romcom to life. I love how Briana and James went from to a horrible first impression to understanding each other and becoming true friends and eventually that friendship blossomed into true love. I loved every part of this book. My only hesitation for giving this amazing book 5 stars was that I wished I could have had more of the happily ever after! The two main character’s early relationship revolved around miscommunication and conflicting emotions. I feel like the ending was slightly rushed after Bri and James were able to admit their feelings for each other. I feel like I just wanted more time with the main characters in their happy ending. Despite this, it was still an amazing read and I really connected to it. If you love fake dating and forced proximity, this is a great read!
